She was Victoria Justice as a guest star on Victorious in the year 2012. Shipp began her career in 2009, as a support actor with Alvin and the Chipmunks. The third episode of Nickelodeon's mysterious teen drama House of Anubis, Shipp performed the role of KT rush. In 2014 Shipp was noticed for her performances in the role of Dani Raymond in the VH1 television film sequel Drumline: A New Beat and Aaliyah Haughton, who played the title character in the Lifetime television film Aaliyah the Princess of R&B. Shipp was a singer for the second performance. Another role she took on was Ice Cube's wife, Kimberly Woodruff, in Straight Outta Compton. The biographical drama chronicled the career of N.W.A. in 2016. She was a part-time actress in Bryan Singer's film about superheroes X-Men: Apocalypse with Halle Berry as Ororo Storm, a mutant who controls climate change.
